Making cards- 9 cards one sketch

Not for the youngest of kids this one and preferably with a safer method of cutting paper to size!  No fancy gems, gels, glues and inks - only paper, card double sided tape on a roll, scissors, paper trimmer and a printer to print out the instructions and messages for the card fronts.

For those Knitters amongst us - Free knitting sites

My 13 year old son was set homework for Textiles (online schooling thanks to COVID) and it was to knit something.  This is not something that he is interested in or has the patience to do but I hear that it is undergoing something of a revival thanks to YouTube.  Most of the people who used to know how to knit from scratch are no longer with us to teach the newcomers but YouTube has filled the gap.

Given that knitting requires time and patience we opted for some French Knitting with my son.

If you would like something a little more ambitious then here is a round up of free hat patterns - perfect for the horrible cold weather here in the UK and small enough to be quite quick.  All of these sites also have other categories for those with more skill or patience as well...

To help out with homeschooling during the Coronavirus lockdown and also to champion scientific ways of thinking the Dyson company has put together 40 "challenge cards" to download from here.  Some are a simple science experiment with an answer, some are an engineering challenge for you to investigate yourself.

If you have always wanted to know how you can measure the speed of light using a bar of chocolate now is your chance....

Homeschooling - The Tempest

Yes here in the middle of lockdown we are attempting to teach our son who is 12 and has SEND how to understand Shakespeare; obviously a fantastic skill for someone who is basically illiterate and innumerate to have for every day life!  However here is a round up of some of the resources we shall be using, I have concentrated on the KS2 (primary school level) rather than the KS3 (secondary school level) resources as it does part of the differentiation to SEND for me.

Primary Shakespeare Company usually tour primary schools but this year are putting their resources online:-
once a fortnight the site has a new "book" about a new character here (specifically for special schools)
This page accesses the main resources.  You need to sign up to access them but they are free

Youtube has a couple of videos on The Tempest.
This is a short animated version

This is a summary from "animated books"

Finally here is a song from BBC Teach which summarises the story

The BBC has a whole page of clips and resources for KS2 here.  Having looked at the resource pack it will is intended for whole classes but could be adapted for use at home.
